About
While training as an integral coach, I noticed a recurring pattern:
Some of the course facilitators — coaches, synthesisers, weavers — were struggling to translate the essence of their work into the digital realm.
The issue wasn’t a lack of clarity.
It was that their work didn’t fit into neat categories or conventional business formulas.
It resisted the kind of linear, transactional approach that many marketing agencies rely on.
These were people doing deep, complex, often emergent work — work that needed space to unfold, iterate, and evolve.
Integral Expression began as a response to a question:
How do we support the articulation of transdisciplinary work in a way that feels clear and true — without flattening it into marketing noise?
About Dana Toerien
Over the past ten years, I’ve woven together different disciplines — documentary filmmaking, multimedia, humanitarian work, business development, psychology — looking for ways to support meaningful, regenerative work in the world.
My formal training includes:
a BA in documentary filmmaking from the University of Cape Town
a diploma in Integral Coaching (ICF-accredited, The Coaching Centre)
a diploma from the Integrative Mental Health University (USA), focused on providing peer support to people at the intersection of psychosis and spiritual emergence
current training with LifeLine South Africa to volunteer non-directive, empathetic counselling support to people in emotional distress — particularly those navigating psychological crises within socio-economic constraints.
My interests span transpersonal psychology, integral theory, somatic therapies, Jungian shadow work, indigenous and shamanic perspectives, and cyclical nature-based living.
Integral Expression offers intuitive, strategic, and grounded support to people weaving complexity, insight, and transformation into their work.
Rather than applying formulas, I work closely with clients to shape businesses that fit them — structures that honour the pace, rhythm, and complexity of their work and their nervous systems.
My approach is slow, intuitive, relational, and iterative.
“Over twenty years as a coach myself, I have been a client to dozens of highly skilled, experienced coaches, some the doyens of the industry, and I can sincerely say that the impact Dana has made to my world is up there with the best. Her coaching has been profound from the very first session. She is patient, wise, kind and attentive. And her coaching rigour is exemplary. I leave sessions feeling grounded and gifted, and privileged to have a coach that is also a counsellor, muse and mystic.”
— Roland Cox, Integral Leadership Coach
A Collective Web
While I work one-on-one with most clients, Integral Expression also draws on a trusted network of collaborators — designers, editors, strategists, coaches — depending on what each project calls for.
This is a non-hierarchical, values-aligned web of experts. Each person I bring in shares a commitment to working with honesty, creativity, and care.
If you’re building something nuanced, emergent, and impact-driven — and you’re looking for a thought partner who can help you shape, hold, and express it — I’d love to connect.
